Quick-Wittedness (workshop 6)

You can integrate this workshop into your in-house training or your individual business coaching. Here are a few tips to "quick-wittedness".

Once, Winston Churchill was attacked at a dinner party by a British politician with the words: "If I were your wife, I would put poison in your tea." Churchill replied spontaneously: "If I were your husband, I would drink it." — This little episode shows that you can reject verbal attacks quick-wittedly. Here are some tips on this topic.

Quick-wittedness technique #1

Irony! So do not take the verbal attack seriously, but rather ironically. If somebody says: "You had a lot of drinks yesterday!" It would be a mistake to justify yourself. An ironic answer would be for example: "Frankly, on a good day, I drink twice that!"

Quick-wittedness technique #2

Call back! Just ask the other person what he means by the verbal attack. So, for example, to the accusation: "You've had a lot of drinks yesterday!" Just ask back: "What do you mean by that?" — Sounds easy? It is! And gives you time to think about the next sentences while the other answers your question.

Quick-wittedness technique #3

Tit-for-tat response! It is a simple counterattack. For example, to the accusation: "You've had a lot of drinks yesterday!" Just say: "At parties I'm just really fun — unlike you." So just turn the tables.
